A recent incident at a South African restaurant serves as a perfect case example of how
not to respond to 300+ some odd years of colonization:
After eating out at Western Cape's Obz Cafe, Ntokozo Qwabe
left this jerkish note for his white waitress in lieu of a tip:
"We will give tip when you return the land."
Ashleigh Schultz, took Qwabe's words hard; apparently, she cried "white tears," per Qwabe's now-deleted FB post on the incident.
We're sure he had a big douchey face when he wrote that.
Look, we get it. Imperialist scum have victimized and pillaged Africa for centuries. The Dutch, the U,K, the U.S.A., you name it. And true, virtually almost all those people were white.
But why does that justify treating an innocent young woman, who-by all indications-is just trying to scrimp by, in such mean fashion? She wasn't one of those colonialists. Far as we know, she's expressed no desires for a return to apartheid SA.
If Qwabe didn't tip this woman because of what she represents to him, then maybe he shouldn't go out to eat anymore. Or at least not aim his narrow aggressions at all white folks. At least save some for the black bourgeois who sold SA out, like
Madiba.
We're just sayin.'
