But here's the thing. None of those kids got that way naturally. Social instances during their younger years helped developed those classist ideologies.
Their moms and dads waxing poetic about "those people" moving into the neighborhood after too many swigs at the wine cabinet, being a perfect example. Such groupthink can manifest into exclusionary actions, such as the case with Harvard's Porcellian Club.
Ya see, the Porcellian Club has been a good ol' boys only gang for its 225-year history. When Harvard recently tried making all exclusive undergrad clubs co-ed, PC rebuked those efforts....because apparently their members can't be trusted to not be total rapos.
Roll the tape, The Harvard Crimson:
“Given our policies, we are mystified as to why the current administration feels that forcing our club to accept female members would reduce the incidence of sexual assault on campus,” [Charles M] Storey wrote. “Forcing single gender organizations to accept members of the opposite sex could potentially increase, not decrease the potential for sexual misconduct.”
“Sexual misconduct is absolutely unacceptable in all its forms but it is not an issue at the Porcellian Club,” he added.
Let's try translating this, shall we?
"Ahem!"
"You can't make our exclusive, boys only club accept girls! What if we get super horny and decide to make them do nasty sex stuff with our penises without their consent? We have absolutely no self-control! If that happens, it's all your fault!"
If these clubs refuse female members because they themselves-or other male company-are potential predators, then they have waaayyy bigger problems here than just the administration.
These boys aren't animals. They're just suffering from plain ol', all-our-girlfriends-should-resemble-porn-stars sexism.
Now, gentleman, we aren't college experts. Our EIC hasn't been to college in years. Nor does he ever plan on returning.
But ever considered the possibility that you're treating women as if they're HIV-positive unicorns? And that maybe they don't all have HIV? Or any horns? Or any features indicative of animals? Or that they're actual, feeling, breathing humans? Humans that can say, "No!" and damn well mean it?
You should get to know them sometime. And no, those vintage 1960s Playboys don't count. We're positive that if you guys undertake that challenge, you'll discover that women aren't mutant freaks you have some urge to penetrate violently.
Give it a shot. After all, you came out of a woman. Most of your caregivers and teachers likely were and are women (There's that pesky sexism again!)
We're confident you'll change your minds. Or contain your unnatural urge to violate women. Whichever comes first. Hopefully the former.
