The following is a brief piece from our EIC to fellow Uber RUSH messengers and couriers in general
I can't say I saw this becoming my daily life. Picking up my blue roadster from some Edison Park Fast on 17th Street and 10th every morning, playing Virtual Tetris with cabbies as my opponents and random packages in my bag as powerups. Penalty points from the NYPD for running red lights.
(Those packages were random as hell.)
I decided working through Uber's test bike courier program in Manhattan was my best option to make a living. And when I joined back in March, I proved myself right. The pay fed my stomach and rent all by itself.
Then more couriers starting coming on-board as the word spread. And Uber began getting more greedy.
Eventually, frequent rate cuts across their delivery apps became commonplace; excuses justifying them as ways to drive business began; and tip monies from restaurant deliveries owed to us remained-and still do-in their coffers.
And we've had enough of the garbage, Which is why we're planning a one-day strike against Uber on December 1st. DON'T take ANY jobs through Uber RUSH's regular, merchant or combined app.
At 4pm that day, we'll convene outside Uber's Chelsea office to demand a return to original rates on both apps, release of unpaid tips and an end to outer-boro flat rates.
Because there's no way in Hell any RUSH messenger should only get $20 for transporting a 30-lb air mattress from Midtown to Gravesend.
More information about the action here.Come out and support if you can!
