In January, Cuomo raised the idea of forcing New York City to fund $485 million-30 percent-of the university's annual operating budget. His rationale was that because the city appoints a third of CUNY's board members, they should also pick up a third of its tab.
That reason obviously didn't fly with student protesters, many of whom (like our EIC) have dealt with constant CUNY tuition hikes and crappier quality schools.
And while we're positive this protest played a considerable role in Cuomo's about face, we'll remind today's CUNY population that more attacks are guaranteed! We must continue this fightback at all costs!
